Traditional Aleppo soap is made from 70% olive oil and 30% bay oil, water and lye. For its preparation, the traditional method of soap making is followed, where the ingredients are boiled in large cauldrons. After boiling the mixture is poured into large molds on an earthen floor where it solidifies and dries before being cut into soap shapes. After chopping, Aleppo soaps are stored in a shady place and left to dry and age for at least 9 months (it gets better the longer it ages and the higher the proportion of bay oil).
Aleppo soap is used daily for washing, hair washing, face mask, shaving cream and for bathing babies and children. It is effective against mosquito bites and indicated for various forms of skin diseases (skin allergies, irritated skin, eczema, bacterial dermatitis, acne, rosacea). It also prevents hair loss.
Aleppo soap, due to its composition, is biodegradable.
